Watching videos

Find out more about video captions, quality and downloads on Workplace.

You can download videos from your computer.
To download a video uploaded to a Workplace group:
  1. From the group, go to the video that you'd like to download.
  2. Click on the video you'd like to download.
  3. Click in the top right and select Download Video.
Video downloads may not be available if your admin has enabled Video Rights Management for your Workplace community.

You can adjust the quality of your videos on Workplace.
To adjust the quality of your videos from a computer:
  1. Click your profile picture in the bottom left of Workplace, then click Settings.
  2. Click Videos in the left menu.
  3. Click the dropdown menu next to Video default quality and select Default, SD only or HD if available.
Keep in mind that by default, the quality of videos will be automatically changed depending on available bandwidth. The faster it is, the higher the quality of the video will be.

You can adjust your video settings to always show captions, when available.
  1. Click your profile picture in the bottom-left of Workplace, then click Settings.
  2. Click Videos.
  3. Click Off next to Always Show Captions.
  4. Select On to turn on captions for Workplace videos, when available.
Your caption settings will only apply to videos you watch on a computer.
Keep in mind that not all videos on Workplace have captions. Learn how to add captions to a video you've added.

You can edit the way captions look on Workplace videos. These caption settings will only apply to videos you watch on a desktop computer.
  1. Click your profile picture in the bottom-left of Workplace, then click Settings.
  2. Click Videos.
  3. Click Edit to the right of Captions Display.
  4. Click each option you want to adjust:
    • Background Color: the color of the caption's background.
    • Background Opacity: how transparent the caption's background is.
    • Text Color: the color of the caption's text.
    • Text Size: how big the caption's text is.
  5. Click Save Changes and check the caption preview to see how your caption will look.

Playback of Workplace videos, including recordings of Workplace Live broadcasts, can be sped up or slowed down up to 2x.
To speed up or slow down a video on Workplace:
  1. Click at the bottom of the video player.
  2. Click Playback Speed.
  3. Select a playback speed between 0.5x and 2x.
If you rewind a Workplace Live that is still in progress, you will be able to watch at a faster or slower speed. If you catch up with the live broadcast, your playback speed will return to 1x.

Troubleshooting
If you're having trouble playing videos on Workplace, here are some things you can try.
Restart your browser:
  • Close your internet browser and restart your computer.
Check your internet connection:
  • If your internet connection is slow, try restarting your router or modem (internet connection device).
  • If you’re using Wi-Fi, try reconnecting to your network or connecting to a different network.
Update your browser:
  • Update to the most recent version of your web browser (example: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Internet Explorer).
  • If you are on a computer running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, the issue you're experiencing may be fixed by using a different browser.
